I recently published a photo essay called August here on Overthinker.

While August is already quite self-reflexive, there are always more details about how I made something. So here they are!

The idea

As each day of August passed, I stuck the new photo to the wall above my bed in the shape of the month.

This is already contained within the essay itself: I was sad. I was listening to august by Taylor Swift on repeat, not by choice. I saw this tweet at around 11:30pm which made me totally rethink the song. I decided to make a photo essay about it.

And I’m very pleased to say that I did!

The logistics

I did take a photo everyday. I didn’t fudge any of it! I remembered for 31 days straight. It honestly feels weird to have stopped.

My original vision was for the essay to have a written introduction at the beginning and then to include all 31 photos after that.
