It’s wild to think that every year since I graduated university feels like the biggest year yet for my writing! While I’m still not exactly where I’d like to be, I’m slowly inching closer and I feel really positive about my progress.
At the beginning of 2023, I took the biggest step in my journey so far and I temporarily paused my legal career to go back to university to start my Master’s degree in literature and creative writing. It was an immensely scary decision but it has felt like the right one.

I GOT SHORTLISTED FOR THE TEXT PRIZE!
I think that’s worthy of capital letters. This is the biggest achievement in my writing career to date and will hopefully get me one step closer to publishing my first book.
Here are the things I’m proud of this year:
Song of the Summer was shortlisted for the Text Prize
I wrote every week and consistently published on Overthinker once a week starting in June 2023
I made really good progress on my Master’s degree and wrote a first draft of my thesis novelette (a young adult story about girls playing Aussie Rules football)
I continued to write every time I felt like quitting
