Creative career vs creative hobbies
How do you draw the line between what you do for work and what you do for fun?
I’m in a unique position where I have a really big overlap between my career and my hobbies. Obviously, in a way, this is the dream, right? I’m pursuing writing as a career because it would be brilliant to make a living from the thing I love most. The goal is to be able to write as much as I want.
However, the nature of pursuing writing as a career means that it bleeds into a lot of my free time. I’ve spent countless weekends, evenings, lunch breaks, holidays, etcetera writing when the normal thing would be to relax.
This is not a particularly new revelation to me. I knew that pursuing writing would involve a lot of sacrifice.
Reentering my crafting era
But last year, I got back into crafting. I used to be really into cosplay and various craft projects when I was a teenager. I was never amazing at it – I had a lot of help from talented friends! – but it was so much fun and it brought me a lot of joy.
